An important part of a musical journey is performing!

Performing is incredibly fulfilling and exciting. It builds confidence, while reducing anxiety; develops stronger musicianship, not only by playing, but also listening to fellow performers; allows for preparation of pieces to the highest level.

Basia’s Piano Studio presents a Halloween Recital and Spring/Summer Recital every year.

how to be a better performer

Performing enhances memory and builds problem solving skills. It has been linked to improve academic achievements, particularly in math and reading. Equally important aspect of performing is allows for students to interact and socialize.

Performing can, however, also be stressful and overwhelming. One of the strategies to overcome the anxiety is a high level of preparation before the recital. Basia encourages her students to understand the character of a piece by thoroughly exploring what they see on the page of music. Knowledge of rhythm, dynamics, tempos and various articulations allows students to listen better, memorize the music with ease and further develop fine and gross motor skills, all of which strengthen student’s mindfulness and confidence.

Another way of taming fear of performing, practiced by many different fields of work, is breathing. Breathing leads to a more relaxed body and results in the ability to better control some of the anxiety symptoms such as “butterflies in the stomach”, shallow breathing and sweaty palms. When and how to breathe within every piece is a skill that every student masters at Basia’s Piano Studio!
